The Campaign
A comedy pitting Will Ferrell and Zach Galifiniakis against each other as sworn enemies is pretty much a guaranteed win. Just the two of them playing clueless, ruthless rival candidates for office is enough to make “The Campaign” nonstop hilarious. But this sharp satire takes it to the next level. And the characters’ total idiocy makes a very smart point about politics.

Long-term U.S. Congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) is running unopposed for re-election when a sex scandal shocks his conservative North Carolina constituency. So the billionaire Motch brothers (Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow), who want to bring a Chinese sweatshop to town, tap wide-eyed local Marty Huggins (Galifiniakis) to run against him. As the race heats up, both contenders’ attempts to woo voters get more and more insane—and funnier and funnier.

You’ll laugh all the way through “The Campaign.” The comic combination of Ferrell and Galifiniakis is an instant classic, and supporting players like Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott as campaign managers are dead-on funny as well. And the more crude and over-the-top the humor gets, the better it illustrates how low politics can sink.

It’s obvious that Will and Zach must be pretty smart to play this dumb. We’re hoping “The Campaign” is the first of many brilliant comedies they make together.
